Overview

Mobile phones have changed radically from their early days of just making and receiving calls. Text functionality was built in so that you could also send and receive messages, then pictures appeared then multimedia.

Smartphones are phones which allow information access such as email, personal organisers and these often now include web access and cameras for both still pictures and video. GPS is a recent feature and some places you can already use your phone to point and pay for goods e.g when using snack machines.

Mobile apps

Portable apps are designed for USB drives not phones but a very convenient way of using a mobile device

There are loads of mobile phone apps available through the sites above, here are some which I came across recently (not tried yet).

• Sending data from Firefox to your phone
• Xfruits RSS and OPML to mobiles
• Feedm8 - turning blogs into mobile websites
• WinAVi video convertor  I have tried this one, great for podcasts.
